Inbox Placement Integration

This article explains MxToolbox's Inbox Placement Integration.

Inbox Placement tests your sent message's deliverability to Google G Suite/Gmail and Microsoft Outlook 365 inboxes and whether it will hit the inbox or the corresponding Spam/Junk folder. The test results alert you to whether your message landed in the Spam (Gmail)/Junk (Outlook) folder, the inbox, or another category, such as Promotions or Social, all before clicking the send button so you can take corrective actions.

By integrating with MxToolbox's Inbox Placement, you can get ahead of unknown email delivery issues and stay out of the dreaded Spam folder. Additionally, you can decide if you want to test your email marketing campaign's inbox placement automatically (via setting it up to work in your campaigns) or simply run inbox placement tests on test/draft emails before sending.

Step 2: To begin receiving data, paste the copied email addresses in Step 1 into your outbound sender list. Then, click the accompanying "I have pasted the emails" checkbox found within this step.

How to Use Inbox Placement to Run Pre-Send Tests

In many cases, you might want to test your inbox placement and deliverability of a new campaign or email before it starts getting sent to your recipients. If so, you can use the Inbox Placement feature to evaluate your test emails to see if they have spam issues, delivery issues, or content issues before ever sending them out to your users.

  1. Copy the three (3) provided test email addresses from your Mxtoolbox Inbox Placement integration setup instructions.
  2. Paste those three (3) test email addresses into your email sending platform or tool where you have set up your new email to be sent from.
  3. Send test emails to those addresses, then we'll provide you with results.
  4. Evaluate results and make changes to improve your email.
  5. Test again.
  6. Rinse and repeat until you have your email ready to go out to recipients with a high likelihood of inbox success.

How to Run Automatic Inbox Placement Tests Using Your ESP's and Other Senders

If you use a third-party provider, such as Mailchimp, Mailgun, or SendGrid, to send your outbound emails or marketing campaigns, you can still test your inbox placement pre-send with MxToolbox. Testing your inbox placement is beneficial for your email deliverability and shows you where your messages land: inbox, Spam/Junk, or failed to be delivered. The steps to set up inbox placement tests through MxToolbox are generally the same for each of these three providers (and others). For this example, we are using Mailchimp to demonstrate the process.

Example: Mailchimp If you use Mailchimp to send email, you can run an inbox placement test by following these instructions:

  1. Log in to your Mailchimp and MxToolbox accounts.
  2. In your Mailchimp interface, access your Dashboard.
  3. Find the campaign you would like to run inbox tests on and the associated recipient list.
  4. Copy the three (3) test inboxes from the MxToolbox Integration page.
  5. Paste those three (3) test inboxes into your recipient list at Mailchimp or your email service provider of choice.
  6. Wait for your campaign to run and the samples will be sent to our Inbox Placement.

Inbox Placement Test Results

The status of each message sent to the MxToolbox test addresses appears in the table. If your message was delivered to a Spam/Junk folder, it is noted below that specific email provider. A green check mark and Inbox label under the MxToolbox, Gmail, and Outlook column headers indicates your email was successfully delivered to those inboxes as intended. An orange exclamation point (!) tells you that the message's status is Not Received (undelivered) and likely being processed.

Again, a Spam/Junk designation means your message was classified as spam and needs to be reviewed and corrected for its issues (e.g., missing header, landed on a blocklist, etc.) before reaching inboxes.

What Happens to Inbox Placement Emails?

When you send an email to our Inbox Placement feature, the email is temporarily stored and deleted after 180 days. It is inaccessible on a secure server.

We are unable to immediately delete the email because current and future features will analyze it and produce related results/data.
