How to Set Up Monitoring Notifications
This article explains how to set up monitoring alerts for blacklist, smtp, and DNS monitors.
Notification policies allow you to define how changes in the status of your monitors are communicated to your team. To access your MxToolbox Monitoring Notifications, click here. You can also find it by clicking the Monitoring header at the top of the interface, then select Notifications on the far left.
Your account starts with a "Default" notification policy and will automatically be set to send alerts for all of your monitors to the account owner via email.
By creating custom policies, you can define advanced notification behavior. To do that, click the orange "Create New Policy" button on the right side of the page. You can also make changes to any current notifications in this section.
There are several sections available to help manage your notifications, including:
- Tags define which monitors will trigger the policy.
- The Email To and SMS To sections allow you to specify who will be notified, as well as the method of how each recipient receives alerts. Note: Before you can add a recipient in theses fields, the email addresses need have been invited to your MxToolbox account. You can invite new users using our Invite system.
- Callback allows you to set up a URL to be notified with a webhook when changes are detected. For more information about how to configure a Callback URL please see the Callback/Webhook Setup page.
- Wait allows you to specify how long a monitor must be down before a notification is generated, and Repeat lets you request continuous notifications until the problem is resolved. Both of these are in minutes.
- Ignore Alerts lets you ignore specific problems that you are not interested in being notified about. Please note that these are NOT global ignore settings. Setting ignore alerts on a notification policy will only ignore those alerts on that policy and they will still be available in other notification policies and for your monitors.
- Send Test Notifications allows you to send test messages to ensure your notifications are setup properly. This will send a test notification to the Email To / SMS To addresses in the notification policy.
Note: Prior to adding recipients to your notification policies, you must invite them. Once they have accepted your invitation, you can add those users to any notification policy.
